Installing Flexible Track into UPVC U Channels for Shower Trays

Overview

This guide explains how to install our flexible track into UPVC U channels, with special instructions for forming a 90-degree corner in your shower tray and protecting the track sides from pulling apart.

Key Installation Steps

1. Track and Channel Height
• The combined height of the track and UPVC channel is 9mm.
• To determine the correct height to cut the door, measure the distance from the surface where the U shaped channel and track will be fixed on both the base and top surfaces. From this measurement, subtract 10mm from the top and 10mm from the bottom. The resulting number is the height to which the door should be cut.
2. Using Resin for Bonding
• If using a lot of resin to bond the flexible track into the channel, measure the height after the track is fitted and use that measurement to cut the door for the best fit.
3. Where to Install U Shaped Channels
• U shaped channels can only be fitted on the straight edges of the shower tray.
• After making the gradual 90-degree bend in the flexible track, insert it into the U channels on the straight sections only.
• Important: The U shaped channels cannot be bent and will not support the curved section of the track.
4. Channel Placement for Corners
• Each U shaped channel should be fitted 15-16cm back from the corner edge.
• This placement allows the flexible track to make the required bend smoothly.
• If the U channels are fitted too close to the corner, the flexible track will struggle to bend into the desired shape.
5. Cutting the Door to Size
• Once the track and channels are fully installed and all measurements are confirmed, cut the door to the calculated height as described above for the best fit.

Tips for a Smooth Installation

• Install the bottom track first, then measure its height before fitting the top track. Resin used for bonding may expand as it cures, which can affect the final measurement for the top track. To allow for precise adjustment, we recommend fitting the top track onto an adjustable batten, so you can fine-tune the space once the door is slotted into position.
• Only cut the door once the track and channels are installed.
• Ensure U channels are securely bonded to the straight edges and positioned 11-12cm from corners.
