FAQ - TAMdoûr Tambour Sliding Doors.

    1. Why do TAMdoûr Tambour doors cost more than standard kit-sized doors on the market?

    • Material - Most door kits on the market are made using low-cost PVC plastic for both the tambour slats and the track. At THEdoûr, we use premium ABS plastic. Here’s why that matters:
    • Durability & Performance - Tambour doors operate by sliding between a top and bottom track system. To ensure a smooth slide, the track should ideally rest flush against the top of the door, with each slat moving independently. If a gap forms between the door and track, the door may tilt or lean, increasing friction and resulting in a poorly fitted sliding mechanism.
    • Environmental Stability - PVC is highly sensitive to environmental changes, especially in campervan, RV, or motorhome settings. In the summer, PVC expands with heat, which can cause the door to get stuck. In winter, it may contract, leading to tilting, gaps, or even rattling. By contrast, ABS plastic holds its shape under temperature fluctuations, ensuring smooth and reliable operation year-round, without rattling or bending in the middle.

    2. What makes the TAMdoûr handle superior?

The handle plays a critical role in the overall strength and stability of a tambour door. Many manufacturers cut costs by using a partially backed aluminum slat covered with PVC, compromising structural integrity

    • Our Design - TAMdoûr doors feature a fully backed aluminium slat that connects to the adjoining slat, providing robust strength and stability for doors up to 1000mm in width. An ABS cover is then added for additional durability.
    • Handle Placement - Unlike designs where the aluminium slat is weakened by a large cutout for the double sided handle (risking buckling under pressure), our handles are thoughtfully integrated. The handle is cut into the ABS cover plate, with three small holes for secure attachment. We use strong 3M double-sided tape to keep the handle in place, maintaining the door’s structural integrity even under accidental impacts. Our handle design is built to support the door withstand wear and tear.

    3. What makes your track system different?

We offer a range of track systems that prioritize smooth operation and customization:

    • Quality Materials - Our tracks are made from ABS plastic and feature a low-friction ridge for effortless sliding. In contrast, many kit tracks use basic flat channels made from PVC, which can lead to squeaking and hindered movement.
    • Flexible Configuration - Standard kit tracks often come in fixed sections, such as a 600mm wide by 600mm deep configuration, which may not suit all installations. To adapt these, users are forced to cut and join sections, often resulting in a bumpy and inefficient sliding surface.
    • Custom Fit - We provide two straight lengths of track that are double the width of your ordered door, along with a set of 90-degree turns. This allows you to cut and customize the tracks to your specific measurements, whether for a straight or angled slide, ensuring a seamless fit without compromising the door’s operation.

     4. How are your slats connected?

    • Longevity & Durability - Many kits use black rubber connectors between each slat. These connectors are often small, and over time, environmental exposure can cause the rubber to perish, split, and compromise the watertight seal, requiring costly replacements.
    •  Our Solution - Our male-to-female connector system is designed with a large, ¾ wrap-around connection hidden within the slats. This robust design eliminates the need for rubber connectors and prevents water leaks, ensuring the door’s longevity and resilience in all conditions.

    5. What sizes do you offer?

Most kit doors are sold in standard off-the-shelf sizes, such as 2000mm x 600mm, which require users to cut them down, leading to potential costly mistakes if mismeasured. Campervans, for example, often require doors around 1700mm to 1800mm in height.

    • Custom Sizing - At THEdoûr, we custom-make every door to order, down to the exact millimeter. There’s no need to risk miscuts—we handle the precision for you. We also offer handle colour customisation to match your aesthetic preferences.
    • Delivery Time - Standard delivery is 10-12 working days worldwide. We communicate any changes in lead times clearly during the checkout process.

Thank you for considering TAMdoûr Tambour Doors, Our products are designed for superior quality, performance, and reliability, making your travels as smooth as possible.
